New Mastodon Album Rumored For Fall Release

Mastodon may be releasing a new full-length album this fall called Cold Dark Place, according to multiple sources. Guitarist/singer Brent Hinds first mentioned the LP as a solo album, then later suggested it would be combined with the band’s current record Emperor Of Sand as a double album. Emperor Of Sand ended up coming out as a single effort, and now Cold Dark Place will surface as a new standalone LP from the group. Hinds told Guitar World that he wrote the set himself and recorded it with Mastodon drummer Brann Dailor and bassist Troy Sanders prior to recording Emperor Of Sand. Hinds himself teased the new release online today by posting the cover art, although a September 22nd release date posted by Amazon was later pulled. Emperor Of Sand came out in April and debuted at Number Seven on the Billboard 200 album chart. The disc contained the Top Five rock radio single “Show Yourself.” Mastodon will kick off a fall North American headlining tour in Denver on September 23rd.
